PLAY Boulder Duck Race

Interwest partnered with the Play Boulder Foundation to raise funds to help children of all abilities and means have access to recreational programs.

Every year the Play Boulder Foundation sells 6,000 rubber ducks to contribute to grant funding that helps communities develop recreational programs for low-income and disabled children. The ducks are sold at a family-friendly community gathering featuring food, drink and festivities, including a race where thousands of rubber ducks race in the creek, including several large ducks sponsored and “duck-o-rated” by local businesses. Headquartered in Boulder, Interwest has long participated in the Annual Boulder Duck Race, both in organizing the community event and as a race contestant.

Awards are given to the ducks that cross the finish line first, with additional awards for the most popular and ingenious decorations. Hundreds of votes are cast by children and families to determine the best of the best, and this year our duck, Teri, was awarded “Most Creative”! We’re honored to have won this title, as well as to contribute to such a worthy cause.

Mobility 21

Interwest attended the Mobility 21 Conference in Anaheim, CA. This was Interwest’s first time attending this conference, but, given the tremendous growth in our Transportation Engineering, Planning, and Right of Way business lines, we hope it’s the first of many appearances.

On September 27 Interwest Consulting Group made its inaugural appearance at the Mobility 21 conference to promote our Real Estate/Right of Way (as CPSI), Transportation Engineering, and Planning business lines. The organization and one-day annual summit (themed “Beyond the Limits”) brings together industry leaders, agencies, public officials, and community stakeholders invested in the pursuit of regional solutions to the transportation challenges across southern California. This year, the summit hosted over 1500 attendees and 150 booth sponsors including a co-branded booth by Interwest and the newly acquired CPSI. Interwest conference attendees included Kent Jorgensen (Corporate Broker and Real Estate Leader), Nick Pergakas (Director of Planning), and Nicole Jules (Transportation Engineer). Interwest looks forward to attending the conference in the years to come!

Bell Scholarship Program

Since 2012, Interwest has supported and organized the Bell Scholarship Program, issuing scholarships to high-achieving individuals from low-income families in the City of Bell, many of whom are the first generation in their families to seek higher education.

In this time, we have distributed more than $135,000 in scholarship funding to 78 Bell High School recipients. Scholarship recipients are high-achieving individuals from low-income families, many new to the United States, who do not have the resources to support their child’s aspirations of furthering their education. Interwest funds the scholarships along with donations from local businesses and granting organizations like the Parent’s Alliance and IME BECAS. Our staff also sponsors and organizes a dinner and awards ceremony to distribute the scholarships to recipients. Their students and their families enjoy a delicious dinner and are congratulated and encouraged by city officials and sponsors, including the Mayor of Bell and representatives from the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles.

In the last year, recipients have used their scholarships to attend colleges including UCLA, UCSB, UC Berkeley, UC Riverside, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Dominguez Hills, and Cal State Fullerton. Recipients have also gone on to seek internships with the City of Bell as aspiring engineers and civil servants.

Elk Grove Scholarship Program

For the last 15 years, Interwest has participated in this annual scholarship program that supports Elk Grove high school students seeking higher education to pursue careers in engineering, public policy, or government.

During those 15 years, Interwest has contributed to this annual program that provides scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the Elk Grove area seeking higher education and professional training. In 2019, the program generated scholarships totaling more than $220,000 to almost 200 students. In partnership with the Elk Grove Community Foundation, Interwest has provided approximately 100 scholarships totaling over $185,585 that directly benefit graduates seeking careers in engineering, public policy and government. Our staff then attends the Annual Spotlight on Scholars event where scholarship recipients are formally recognized and we have the unique opportunity to meet and make connections with the students that comprise the future of our industry.
