SMART-101

Projects SMART 101 Train Project

This complex project between San Rafael and Santa Rosa required 37 miles of track, 9 stations, 1 new tunnel, 20 bridges and 12 new trains. The project also included train signaling and control, as well as multiple construction and procurement contracts.

Interwest was retained by Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) to provide full right of way services including serving as the Project’s Right of Way Project Manager and responsible for managing all aspects of acquisition, relocation and appraisal services. In addition to supervising a team of acquisition and relocation specialists, the Right of Way Manager coordinated with the engineering and environmental teams to ensure Project goals and schedules were met and interacted with the Federal Transportation Agency’s project management consultant as requested to ensure Project funding.

Interwest also provided SMART with senior acquisition services and was involved in the acquisitions of the most complex properties required to construct the Project. The project involved both public and private acquisitions.
