Projects La Novia/Valle Roundabout

This $2.6M project completed in March 2017 was the first roundabout constructed in the City of San Juan Capistrano and the first at a freeway interchange in Orange County. The roundabout replaced the existing offset intersection to reduce congestion and enhance traffic safety. It also provided traffic mitigation for several large subdivision projects in the near vicinity.

The roundabout involved multi-agencies including the Federal Highway Administration and Caltrans. George Alvarez managed the project and he, in partnership with FHWA and Caltrans, presented the roundabout alternative to the City Council and approved it to move forward with design.

This project recently received an award for the APWA Southern California Chapter for Best Design.
