Interwest‘s Planning Department Celebrates Major Wins at American Planning Association Awards

We are thrilled to announce that the Planning Department of Interwest Consulting Group has been recognized by the American Planning Association (APA) with a grand total of four prestigious awards. This acknowledgment from the APA underscores Interwest’s dedication to innovation, leadership, and best practices in planning, zoning and urban design.

The APA Northern California Section Urban Design acknowledged our group with the ‘Award of Merit.’ This was for our work on the San Benito County Zoning Code Update, ADU Design Handbook and Construction Drawing Templates project – a testament to our team’s commitment to strategic urban design and innovative zoning solutions.

Further, we were honored with the APA Central Section 2023 Leadership and Service Emerging Planning and Design Firm ‘Award of Excellence.’ This accolade recognizes our continuing endeavors to shape and drive forward-thinking planning and design principles.

Adding to the list, the APA Central Section 2023 also honored us with the ‘Best Practices Award of Excellence.’ This was for our outstanding work on the Stanislaus County Urban Pockets Project. This award reflects our unwavering dedication to adopting best practices and enhancing the Stanislaus County community’s quality of life and environment.

Lastly, we received the ‘Emerging Planning and Design Firm Award of Excellence‘ from the APA Inland Empire Section 2023 Leadership and Service. This award reaffirms our position as an emerging urban planning and design leader and is a testament to our mission of delivering exemplary services to our communities.

We are immensely proud of our Planning Department for their exceptional work and these significant achievements. This recognition from the APA reflects our commitment to innovative and efficient planning solutions.

These accomplishments fuel our motivation to continue making significant strides in planning, zoning and urban design. We remain committed to making meaningful contributions to the communities we serve. City of San Diego hires Interwest to help speed up permitting and clear backlog

Interwest Consulting Group, a SAFEbuilt company, announced today it has been selected to provide plan review and building inspection services for the City of San Diego.

As part of the SAFEbuilt family of brands, a nationwide community development services company, Interwest has been expanding its reach to support jurisdictions throughout in California. Interwest currently has over 500 employees statewide with an unmatched presence in Southern California.

Our entire Interwest team is fully committed and excited to support the City of San Diego on this project to speed up permitting and clear the existing backlog.

Service is expected to commence in April 2023.

City of La Mesa partners with Interwest

La Mesa, CA – Interwest Consulting Group announced today it was awarded a contract for full building department services as well as supplemental code compliance services related to building code issues for the City of La Mesa in California.

Located nine miles east of downtown San Diego and known as the Jewel of the Hills in southern California, the City of La Mesa opened an RFP earlier this year to select a firm that could deliver quality services to its residents.

Interwest Consulting Group, a SAFEbuilt company, which is a nationwide community development services firm, was eager to initiate the process to partner with the city, “Interwest is already present in the area, our staff are local residents and having the opportunity to deliver consistent, high quality and reliable services to this community was something that excited our entire team.”, said Steve Nero, Senior Director of Business Development.

“Reliable and trustworthy services” were also key decisive points that Kerry Kusiak, Director of Community Development for the City of La Mesa, raised when the city selected Interwest as the firm of choice to deliver the consulting services for the community. Additionally, the city needed a company that could provide supplemental code compliance services depending on the overall workload of the city staff.

Interwest Employee Enayat Haidiri earns prestigious ASCE Award

The Sacramento Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers recently celebrated the organizations 100 year anniversary. During the Centennial Celebration, Enayat Haidiri, a Civil Engineer on the Interwest team, received the Outstanding SCE Life Member Award.

Mr. Haidari was chosen for this award due to his notable contributions to the Civil Engineering Profession, the Society, International assignments, and communities in Northern California.

Interwest Partners with the City of Laguna Woods to Provide Building Department Services

LAGUNA WOODS, CALaguna Woods has enlisted the services of Interwest Consulting Group, A SAFEbuilt Company (Interwest) to manage and coordinate their Building/Permitting Department.

The City plays a critical role in providing high-quality, dependable, and accessible solutions to their residents. Interwest’s Bill Hayes, CBO, who is serving as Building Official for the City, and the Interwest team will serve as an extension of city staff.  “The Laguna Woods Community has come to expect a high level of support from their local government—this includes reliable building inspections and an easy to use permitting process,” Bill states.

Aligned with the standards held by Laguna Woods, Interwest underwent a thorough evaluation process prior to partnering with the City. The process, which began in October 2021, included the review of a formal proposal followed by a series of interviews.  “The Interwest team understood that the interview process would be a challenging one,” Sr. Director of Business Development for Interwest, Steve Nero shares, “but we were confident that our extensive capabilities, local experience, and sheer determination to show the City that we are the best team for Laguna Woods, would shine through and result in a great partnership.”

Interwest’s Laguna Woods team is comprised of a Building Official, plan reviewers, inspectors, and permit technicians. They will work closely with City staff to help streamline building department services and improve the daily lives of those in the Laguna Woods community.

Interwest’s partnership with the City of Laguna Woods began on February 7, 2022.

Interwest Consulting Group Joins Community Development Services Leader SAFEbuilt, updates corporate identity

ELK GROVE, CA – May 17, 2021 – SAFEbuilt, a leading community development services company, announces the completion of the integration of Interwest Consulting Group (Interwest) into the SAFEbuilt family of companies. As part of this process, Interwest subsidiaries Kutzmann, EsGil, and Broadspec will now be fully absorbed into the Interwest brand.

This has led to the need to rebrand in the form of a new Interwest website (www.interwestgrp.com) and updated visual identity, both of which launched today. The legacy websites for Kutzmann, EsGil, and BroadSpec now automatically redirect to the new site.
