Our History
2002 Interwest is Born
In 2002, Interwest Consulting Group was founded to offer engineering services to public agencies—starting with our first office in Elk Grove, California, right across the street from City Hall. We also opened an office in Windsor, Colorado, this year with our first Colorado project with Pioneer School (now Liberty Common High School) in the City of Fort Collins.
2004 GIS, Real estate, and IT Services
In January 2004, we began to offer Geographic Information Systems services to our clients. Shortly after, we added Real Estate and Information Technology services to our portfolio for the City of Elk Grove. Both service lines have expanded over the years. Today, Interwest continues to provide GIS services as well as a wide variety of Real Estate and IT Services & Solutions to public agencies.
2006 100 employees, building safety services, and office openings
With steady organic growth we reached our 100-employee milestone in 2006. Starting with 81 employees at the end of 2005, we grew to 143 employees by the end of the following year. The size of our company today is due to this continued organic growth as well as the mergers and acquisitions we’ve made since.
Another milestone this year was opening our first Southern California office location in Long Beach, California, to better serve our growing client population in the region. We opened another Southern California office in Huntington Beach in 2010.
Plus, we added Building & Safety to our mix of services in 2006, and it would prove to become one of the largest and fastest growing divisions for Interwest, expanding to include sub-services such as Building Plan Review, Building Inspection, Code Compliance, and more. With this addition, we also opened our office in Roseville, California. Building Safety has since evolved into what we now call Building Department Services.
2007 Nevada Office Opening
We opened our first Nevada office in Las Vegas in 2007 while working on the Las Vegas Strip’s city center for Clark county. See where else we are located today on the Contact page.
2010 100 Clients Served
In 2010, we reached the 100-client milestone. The number of clients we’ve served has grown to more than 350 today.
2012 NAFFA International and Vernon Brown join Interwest
In 2012, we acquired NAFFA International, a Building Safety firm in the Central Valley area of California. With NAFFA International, we gained four new team members, expanded our presence into the Fresno area, and began to provide Plan Check and Building Code consulting. NAFFA International also allowed us to open our first Central Valley office in Fresno.
Another exciting acquisition in 2012 was Vernon Brown & Associates, which added Fire and Life Safety plan review and Fire Protection Engineering to our menu of services. We welcomed four additional employees to our team as a result.
2015 250 Employees
We reached the 250-employee milestone in 2015. We ended the year prior with 229 employees, and we nearly doubled the size of our family five years later.
2016 Ontario Office Opening
We opened our office in Ontario, California, in 2016 to serve new clients in Inland Empire region. See where else we are located today on the Contact page.
2018 Tri-lake consultants join Interwest
In April 2018, we acquired Tri-Lake Consultants, a Public Works and Engineering firm established and respected in the Inland Empire for over 30 years. We welcomed over a dozen talented employees and three new clients: the City of Perris, City of San Jacinto, and March Joint Powers.
2019 CPSI Joins Interwest + New Services
Our 2019 acquisition of CPSI, a Southern California Real Estate firm, added more than a dozen top-notch professionals to our team, doubling the size and capacity of our Real Estate division.
Its locations in Orange County, Long Beach, and Modesto also expanded our reach in the Southern California market. It was also this year that we opened our office in Vallejo, California.
Throughout 2019, we added four new service lines to our operations. While we’ve had a small amount of Planning work since 2016, we officially launched the division in 2019. Some of the Planning and Urban Design Services we provide today include downtown planning, zoning, transit development, departmental support, and staffing.
2020 Interwest joins the SAFEbuilt family of companies
In 2020, we joined the SAFEbuilt family of companies. By joining SAFEbuilt, a nationwide Community Services Development company, we will be able to fully realize the benefits of being a part of national brand, including enhanced technology, more scalable systems, and processes designed to improve quality and efficiency for all of our California clients.
2020 EsGil, BroadSpec, and Kutzmann consolidate into Interwest Corporate Identity
We were able to welcome and consolidate EsGil, BroadSpec, and Kutzmann & Associates into the Interwest corporate brand. These companies have done amazing things for our communities in California, and we’re excited to bring 80 talented new employees into our family while expanding the capacity and client reach in our Building Department Services.
