Projects Corona Downtown Revitalization Specific Plan Update
Interwest assisted the City of Corona in updating its Downtown Revitalization Specific Plan (DRSP), which was the first comprehensive update of the plan in twenty-five years.
The new Specific Plan aligns seamlessly with the City of Corona’s recently adopted General Plan and 6th Cycle Housing Element. It also provides guidance on how new downtown development can complement the broader vision of the City’s future growth and development.
The DRSP encompasses 620 acres dedicated to the redevelopment of the downtown area, positioning it as the heart of the community. The overall goal for the update to the DRSP was to harmonize and establish contemporary development and design standards.
The design standards aim to encourage downtown-style buildings and businesses, provide the framework for a walkable community, create high-quality public spaces that complement existing historic and significant structures, and bolster economic activities of the Downtown environment.
Key Highlights:
✅ Harmonization with the City’s broader vision for growth
✅ Encouragement of downtown-style businesses and public spaces
✅ Preservation of historic structures, complemented by high-quality, modern developments
✅ Enhanced streetscapes and public spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy
The city of Corona created a dedicated page to showcase their economic strategic planning efforts, which can be accessed here.
